Date: 18.05.2019
Place: St. Joseph Organic Farm, Kwanyange
On 18th of May 2019 Ms. Elaine Mahal & Mr. Duncan Lumwamu from Nairobi, Kenya took session on Hydroponic agriculture. Farm director Rev. Fr. Alwyn M. J. D’Souza introduced both the technicians to our farm staff members.
Hydroponics is a method of growing plants in water based nutrient rich solution. Hydroponics does not use soil; instead the root system is supported using an inert medium such as perlite, rock wool, clay pellets, peat moss, or vermiculite.
Hydroponics is a subset of hydro culture, which is a method of growing plants without soil by instead using mineral nutrient solutions in a water solvent. Terrestrial plants may be grown with only their roots exposed to the nutritious liquid, or the roots may be physically supported by an inert medium such as perlite or gravel.
At St. Joseph Organic Farm, Kwanyange we are growing wheat and barley for the fodder of cattle and livestock. This two days intense theory and practical training helped our farm staff to gain knowledge on hydroponics.
