The first parents meeting of St.Joseph Boys’ Science Secondary school was held on 26th April, 2014 in the school premises. The meeting started at 2.30pm with the cultural program by the students. They presented various items like traditional songs, jokes and scouts which entertained everyone. Mr. Leon, the chairman of the school board conducted the proceedings. He welcomed all the school board members, parents and the teachers.
The following school board members were present for the meeting : Mr. Leon the Chairman, Fr Ronald Pinto Head master & secretary of the school board, Fr Hilary Lobo, member & spiritual director of the school, Fr Victor Machado, member & hostel director, Sr Edeilburgh Montiero, Urusaline Franciscan sister, member, Sr Veena Mascarenhas the regional superior of UFS, member, Mrs. Leonard Laguah, teacher representative, Mr. Earnest as the parents representative. Fr Alwyn D’souza the manager of the school could not be present due to unavoidable circumstances.
There were fifty parents from various parts of Tanzania who were present for the meeting. They came from various parts of the country like Dar-es-salaam, Moshi, Arusha and Kilimanjaro. Fr Ronald Pinto, the Headmaster of the school read the school report in Swahili and explained about the progress made in the school during the past 5 months with regard to academics, extra-curricular activities, character and spiritual formation. Fr Victor Machado briefed about the development plan for the school with regard to infra-structure and academics. He stressed on the need of responsibility of the parents with regard to good education so that the children may be formed in competence and character. He also said that mere academic study alone is not enough and the students should grow in confidence, creativity, communication and computer skills. Mr. Moses Kateyenge, the academic teacher in-charge read out the academic report. The parents had appreciation for the school management and for the teachers for the good work of education which is imparted to the students.
The parents mentioned about the changes brought about among the students with regard to knowledge of English, behavioral patterns, and spiritual as well as character formation. Parents also gave the following suggestions: 1. There should be competent teachers and there should be periodical evaluation of the teachers 2. The school holidays should be informed well in advance 3. The security to the boarding should be increased 4. Theft in the school should be prevented 5. The school should have a website etc.
The top scorers in the mid-term examination were honored by Sr Edilburgh Montiero UFS and the reports of the students were given out by the Headmaster to the parents. All the parents assured support for the school management to make it an outstanding one. The meeting ended with National Anthem at 6.00pm. All the parents & students took part in the dinner which was served as a token of love.
